Village Green in progress.
June 30, 2021
The sweet peas from Easton Walled Gardens are looking spectacular and doing a great job of covering the bare brick wall to one side of our potting shed next to the greenhouse. Hopefully a warm welcome of colour and scent for patients, staff and visitors alike.
We are making plans to welcome back three of our Garden Volunteers pending confirmation of the easing of restrictions next month. We have greatly missed their help, support and company and look forward to their return.
Village Green
Works have started on the Village Green, a new area of raised beds adjacent to the greenhouse. An opportunity to expand our growing space and range of therapeutic activities for patients. The first course of sleepers is almost complete thanks to the hard work of Andy in his role as Therapeutic Horticultural Technical Instructor. He is working with individual patients to use the construction of this project therapeutically. Measuring and cutting wood, sinking the first layer of wood into the ground, and using the impact driver to fit the pieces together. All of these tasks require dexterity, hand-eye co-ordination, upper limb strength, balance, standing tolerance and ability to follow instruction and retain information. Potential for a variety of therapeutic benefits for our patients.
Staff Health & Wellbeing
We delivered a health and wellbeing session for some of the Complex Trauma staff this month. Working with a small group we spent time walking around our therapeutic garden areas looking at ornamental and vegetable plants commonly grown at home and talking about how to maintain these plants. From deadheading flowering plants to side shooting tomatoes and direct sowing seed outdoors. We are hoping to deliver more sessions in the future.
