Our most successful farm shop ever and a dry May brings the beneficial activity of watering.

May 31, 2023

This month has seen delivery of another pallet of peat free compost from Harmony gardens to keep us going with the never-ending seed sowing and potting on. We have never had so many plants in and around the greenhouse, all in preparation for the second Farm Shop of the year. The space was desperately needed and as we move to planting out, the greenhouse is certainly looking a lot emptier. Again, the staff from DMRC were there to support with setting up and running the Farm Shop. Our garden volunteers have done a great job of helping to getting all the plants ready to sell and helping to get the greenhouse back into order afterwards. It’s been the most successful farm shop to date we raised a grand total of £728 which is a huge amount of money and will help to purchase bulbs and plants for empty spaces in the Pears Walled Garden. Thanks to all who supported us.

The granite paving to finish the Village Green has also arrived thanks to CED stone and we are in the process of finding a contractor to complete the area.

Watering

This month has seen the need for more regular watering with lots of sunny days. This has been a good activity for working on sustained grip strength to operate the spray trigger gun. Rewinding and unwinding the hose reel can be an upper body workout. Judging what to water, when and for how long is a way to focus on cognitive processes. It can also be a relaxing, mindful activity to appreciate the plants being watered and how they look, feel and smell. Taking an opportunity to check plants and note any issues which need addressing or just simply appreciate their flourishing, sustained growth are all ways of absorbing the green environment and its beneficial impact on our health and wellbeing.
