The beds and borders are blooming with flowers and colour. We are starting to get more produce as the tomatoes and courgettes are finally fruiting, potatoes are ready to be dug up, an abundance of Basil and other herbs are ready for picking and lots of onions were recently harvested.
The team attended a Willow Weaving Workshop with Rutland Willow which was packed full of content from small panels to fish, dragonflies and plant supports.
We are intending to create a wider range of projects in addition to wreaths to make with patients with our annual donation of willow from Rutland Willow Above all it was a chance to spend the day together with our volunteers as a thank you for all their hard work.
Fresh ingredients
Given the produce now growing, we are encouraging the OT staff to come to us for fresh ingredients for cooking sessions with patients. There is no better way to learn about healthy eating and practice daily living skills as well as providing some culinary inspiration.
Willow weaving
This is a good activity for working on manual dexterity, grip strength and upper limb range of movement. It requires a great deal of hand-eye co-ordination, ability to process information and follow instruction. A wider variety of projects will provide more opportunity for creative expression with end products of which to be proud. This gives us scope also to offer a wider variety of activities for staff health and wellbeing workshops.
