As we approach the festive season, I want to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you on behalf of the entire HighGround family. This year has been filled with challenges and triumphs, and through it all, your unwavering support has been the driving force behind our mission and I am thrilled to share some remarkable updates with you.

As the CEO of HighGround, I am honoured to lead an organisation that was founded in 2013 by Anna Baker Cresswell with a singular purpose – to empower service leavers and veterans as they navigate their Life Beyond the Military, specifically into the Rural sector and the great outdoors.

Our continued commitment to this cause is rooted in the belief that the green environment holds the key to enhancing the wellbeing and employment prospects of those who have served our Country. HighGround provides expert support, guidance, and hands-on learning opportunities to facilitate the exploration of careers in the land-based sector for service leavers and ex-military personnel.

One of our proudest achievements is being the sole provider of Horticultural Therapy services to injured service personnel at DMRC Stanford Hall. This invaluable service underscores our dedication to improving the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for us.

At HighGround, our mission is clear: to improve the wellbeing and employment prospects of serving personnel and veterans. Our values – Ambitious, Authentic, Inclusive, Practical, and Loyal – guide us in everything we do. Under the leadership of our Chairman, Brig (Retd) Simon Caraffi MBE JP, and with the support of committed volunteers on the Board of Trustees, Development Board, and the Friends of HighGround network, we continue to make a meaningful impact.

Our Rural Experience Weeks programme this year has been a resounding success, thanks in no small part to the support of the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (AFCFT). Their generous contribution has empowered us to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those we serve.

HighGround is thrilled to announce our partnership with Supporting Wounded Veterans in the development of the Transforming Negative Transitions programme. We are deeply grateful to AFCFT for their continued funding support, enabling us to embark on this transformative journey.

Virtual Rural Week Highlights

A special thank you to all the presenters of our Virtual Rural Week and to the Forces Trust for funding this impactful programme. Of the 69 participants, an encouraging 54 are still serving, underscoring the importance of catching them early in their transition.
