What We Do
Our mission is to provide jobs, careers and vocational opportunities for Service Leavers, Reservists and Veterans in the land-based sector. We are also proud to deliver the Horticultural Therapy service at Headley Court.
Military skills and experience map perfectly into the land-based sector.
By building a powerful community HighGround has the resources to create opportunities for ex-military personnel and reservists to pursue a career in the land-based sector.
We do this through work experience and employment opportunities, and by providing access to the right education and training courses required to develop the necessary skills to move in to the land-based sector.
For those who know what path they wish to follow we can help with:
- the details of an appropriate course,
- how to access funding, or
- details of a work experience provider.
However, we also know that many service leavers are not aware of the full range of careers and opportunities available to them. Have you ever thought of:
- working as an arborist in disaster zones,
- being a beatkeeper on a river,
- running a cider orchard,
- being a park ranger,
- flying UAV’s in precision agriculture, or
- conserving vultures in Africa?
To help you consider all the options we have developed Rural Weeks, delivered at an agricultural college, to introduce the huge variety of opportunities in the sector. Read more about our Rural Weeks.
HighGround also delivers Horticultural Therapy at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) as part of their rehabilitation programme for injured soldiers, sailors and airmen.
All patients who come to Horticultural Therapy are referred by their Occupational Therapist as part of an individual rehabilitation programme. Read more about our Horticultural Therapy programme.
As part of our work HighGround conducts and commissions research to ensure that our service delivers meaningful impact to our beneficiaries. Read more about our Research and Evaluation.
