Where to start?!
All our plans are on hold while the
world lives though an historic chapter of
civilisation thanks to CV-19, but Spring waits
for no-one and at HighGround we are busy
planning our next moves, albeit not from
our usual locations. Read on to find out
what we’re up to...

FRIENDS OF HIGHGROUND
FHG is the voluntary arm of HighGround which supports and promotes the work of the Charity with fundraising
and community awareness initiatives, both locally and nationally.
Like all charities, our fundraising has been curtailed by CV-19 but we are using this unwelcome hiatus to plan
Autumn events, and develop our Regional Champions network.
In the meantime, Chris Eberhardie one of our Steering Group, has started the 1,000 Mile Challenge – in
her garden..! You can read Chris’s story here as she gets fit, stays sane, and raises precious funding for
HighGround. To donate to Chris’s challenge please click here. We salute you Chris.

STANFORD HALL
We were honoured to be part of the royal visit to Stanford Hall by TRH the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of
Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on a bleak February morning – luckily the previous day’s
snow had retreated just in time...

Following the sale of Headley Court, the Trustees of the Headley Court Charity have made a donation of
£450,000 to HighGround as a lasting legacy to secure the future of the Horticultural Therapy service at DMRC
Stanford Hall.
On behalf of all the patients past, present, and future who benefit from the mental and physical improvements
which Horticultural Therapy brings, we offer our profound gratitude to the Trustees for their immense
generosity.
We must also thank Vitax, a Leicestershire based company who have donated a year’s supply of compost –
tantalisingly waiting for us in the Potting Shed...

Our Beautiful Borders entry for Gardeners World Live will be carried over until 2021, and Andy and Jane rehomed
as many of the seedlings as possible before they left Stanford Hall to play its part in the Nation’s CV-19
effort.

RURAL WEEKS
Our Spring programme at Bicton should have started on 22nd March and the planned Rural Weeks at Askham
Bryan have all been rescheduled; the former to the Autumn, and the latter to Spring 2021.
|
|
|
In the meantime, we are staying in touch with our
HighGrounders, and virtual Rural Weeks are in the
offing..!
Jemma and Casper who joined us for a Rural Week
last year, represented us at Mission Motorsport’s first
National Transition Event at Silverstone in February.
We share Mission’s belief in the importance of
employment and it’s great to be working with them
and The Royal Foundation.

HORSEFERRY ROAD
The Development Board met in February; we
thank the Footman in Mayfair for hosting us (in the
upstairs room, not the Bar...), and we have had our
first virtual Trustees Meeting too.
Louisa our wonderful social media Volunteer is
helping us to increase our presence with Andy
and Jane now #gardeningfromhome, and we are
delighted to welcome Venetia and Tim who bring
their organisational and fundraising skills to Team
HighGround as volunteers – we literally couldn’t do
this without you all.

FUNDRAISING
In January Horsted Keynes Tuesday Club had a Marmalade Sale and raised over £600 for us – Thank you so much!!
|
|
|
JustSeats is a brilliant initiative which sells unused
tickets and hospitality boxes donated by corporates
and venues when they are not being used. 70% of
the revenue is returned to UK charities and we are
delighted to have joined up with them. It’s a fantastic
way of raising money and in the months to come, the
support you give to HighGround and ALL charities will
never be as important as it is now.
Thank-you for being a Friend to HighGround.
Everything you do to help us raise money and
awareness counts and our #outdoorsisbetter has
never made more sense.

GDPR AND OUR STANDARDS
GDPR came into effect on 25th May 2018. We had an extremely busy run up to this date, but our small
team were able to pull out all the stops and get things in place in time. As a charity we take GDPR and the
security of your information very seriously. To this end, we have ensured that all of our data processors
comply rigorously to keep everything secure. You can read about our Standards here.
